We are working together to aSHEEP this!
General educational policy demands
- Equal rights in committees Student representatives do not have a voice in many committees, e.g. when appointments are made to professorships and specialist careers. As a result, our interests as students and the quality of teaching can be ignored. We therefore demand equal voting rights and one-third parity from TU Graz in all committees whose composition is not defined by law.
- 3x8+2!: One-third parity in the Senate and all committees Students and academic staff each have only 6 out of 26 seats in the Senate. Professors, who make up only a small proportion of university members, have half of the votes with 13, and even an absolute majority in most committees. We demand the reintroduction of one-third parity with 8 Senate members each for students, non-professorial staff and professors and a second Senate member for general staff!
Improvement and modernisation of teaching
Improve equipment in teaching and learning spaces
We are committed to ensuring that new buildings and renovations at TU Graz are equipped with state-of-the-art, student-centred infrastructure. From retrofitting the sometimes patchy power supply in lecture theatres, seminar and study rooms to modern and innovative concepts that enable versatile use of the facilities. With versatile rooms, innovative and motivating teaching concepts can also be realised.Making empty seminar rooms available as learning spaces
Many seminar rooms are directly assigned to institutes and are only used very inconsistently by them. We demand that unused rooms can be easily utilised by students.Making lectures more attractive for students
Lectures in their current form are heavily dependent on the rhetorical skills of the respective lecturer. New methods (e.g. flipped classroom) can make lectures much more exciting for students. This is why we are calling for mandatory didactic training for lecturers at TU Graz.More software licences for students
Practised use of state-of-the-art software is a crucial skill for many students. Software licences for programmes that play an important role in studies should be made available to students free of charge. We are committed to ensuring that as many relevant programmes as possible are available to students without barriers and support the student representatives in organising this.Standardising digital platforms
Many courses use their own online platforms and programmes, which can make it very difficult for students to maintain an overview. Standardising the services used can make teaching much more effective.Affordable catering options for students
Studying is a full-time job that many students cannot afford without working part-time. At the moment, there are hardly any food options in the cafeteria that students can afford several times a week. It should be ensured that food is offered at the university that is within the students' budget.Low-threshold study start for all
Many degree programmes at TU Graz still assume that first-year students have already completed a relevant HTL, which is why there is a correspondingly high entry level. We are calling for a low-threshold start to the degree programme in order to ensure that people with different levels of previous education can be equally catered for.
Regardless of previous knowledge and education, all students should be given an easy start to their degree programme.
Equal opportunities should also apply to working people and second-chance students.Transparent and comprehensible grading
In courses where artistic works are assessed and especially in exercises where designs and concepts are graded, there is a need for comprehensible criteria that are fixed from the outset. We demand that students have simple ways of claiming incomprehensible grades.
Campus as a learning and living space
More space for learning
Learning and group workspaces at the university are essential for good academic success. Graz University of Technology is committed to the goal of promoting joint learning and collaboration, for which a consistent improvement of learning spaces on campus and an expansion of the places provided for this purpose is fundamental. We therefore call on TU Graz to realise these goals and create enough learning spaces.High-quality cycle path connection between all universities in Graz
With co-operations such as NaWi Graz, many students have to cycle back and forth not only between the TU Graz campuses, but also those of the other universities in Graz. For a safe and sustainable journey, we demand the construction of a dedicated lane for bicycles between the campuses of TU Graz, Uni Graz and KUG.Re-establish learning centres
The learning centres are to be equipped with improved and new facilities to better support daily learning and collaborative work. These include more bookable group study rooms, common areas, quiet rooms and microwaves.Expand Makerspaces
The makerspaces offer the opportunity to apply acquired knowledge. In order to expand the variety of these opportunities and make them available to more students, further investment is to be made in the makerspaces.Workshops of the Makerspaces
The available technology offers great opportunities for learning technical skills, construction, artistic design, hardware-related programming and much more. We are committed to organising workshops for students to give their own creativity a push in the right direction.Through the makerspaces, we have access to expertise that we can use to show students how to use a wide range of devices correctly.
Expansion of the campus grounds as ‘social spaces’
We need meaningful campus design and more than just a training centre, but also a place where people enjoy spending time and exchanging ideas. Studying also offers you the opportunity to further your education and try out new things. This should happen through cafés or pubs, for example, to give you a reason to stay on campus in the evenings.More green spaces and meeting areas on the Inffeldgasse campus
The Inffeldgasse campus should not only be a place for teaching, but also a place where people feel comfortable and can socialise. To improve the quality of life, we are calling for more green spaces and meeting areas, as networking and interpersonal contact are an essential part of studying. Furthermore, more green spaces help to improve the microclimate on campus.Sports equipment and pitches
The peripheral area of the Augarten already shows a high level of willingness to use publicly available sports equipment. To improve fitness and health, but also to provide a change from work and study, training facilities should be available on campus for TU members.Student kitchen on the Inffeldgasse campus
In order to improve the food options for students on the Inffeldgasse campus without creating more work for TU Graz, it would make sense to offer a kitchen by students for students near the cafeteria to make independent living easier. Most people don't have time to cook at home, especially in the morning, so being able to do this at the university would be a relief. There should also be fridges for food sharing in these rooms.
